What is it?

I have a 87 5.0 trans am that has a few missing things from the engine bay. None of the original air/fuel, (it has an edelbrock intake and carb with 14 inch open element filter).
With so much of the original equipment missing I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what this blower thing is in the front of the passenger fender beside the battery. The motor on it kinda looks like a motor from the heat/air blower and there is about an inch round port that comes out behind the battery.
This is the 4th 3rd gen fbody I've owned but I don't remember any of the others having it.
Anybody know what it's for?

Sounds like one of the retrofit heat soak kits GM added. Similar to a bilge blower on a boat. It blew air across the carb when the engine was shut off it hot weather.

I have seen those things added to trucks, vans and RVs of the time period as well.

Thanks for the info! That definitely sounds like that's what it is.
