I am swapping out my sending unit assembly on my 82 Z28 (mechanical pump, so just sending unit and fuel lines only in-tank) for a Holley 12-328 electric in-tank pump kit with sending unit.in preparation for a switch to EFI. Tank is down and old unit is out - that's all fine. I noticed that the 3/8 fuel supply line on the new assembly is now a threaded connection, vs the rubber hose and clamp of my old setup (see pics). I assume this is because of the higher pressure of the electric pump? I really don't want to change out the whole line as it's in good condition. I know I can't use regular fuel line because it's not rated for the higher pressure, but I can convert the threaded end to rubber hose using some high pressure 225psi rated fuel hose and some fittings, right? Makes sense to me but this is fuel and I'm not a fan of my car being on fire. Thanks!
So I'm thinking I can just cut off this fitting, then slide some EFI fuel hose on and clamp it using a EFI rated clamp (or two)? Maybe I was thinking about this too hard?
Yes - either cut the fitting off with a tubing cutter or just push the fitting back and slide on the fuel line and use a constant tension clamp far superior then worn gears. Never really a fan of any sort of rubber hoses on fuel lines; but the factory did use them on low pressure in take pumps (L69, and later LG4 models). Maybe a matching fitting and some braided fuel line and then a new connector on the factory fuel line? Cut that line and put an inverted flare?
I ended up cutting the fitting off while leaving the slight flare at the end of the line and then used 2 EFI fuel clamps on the fuel injection hose. Everything seemed to work out fine. Thanks for your input.
