fuel pump rod
fuel pump rod
What is the correct fuel pump rod when using a billet steel roller cam? Is GM # 3704817 correct? Is there a quality aftermarket rod that is good to use? This GM number crosses to Dorman 03875 and GMB 5008001

Re: fuel pump rod
Looks like something with a bronze tip is the way to go.
There are roller tips available as well. I've got one it on the shelf that was targeted for my SBC, but I went to an electric pump instead after a pump cam eccentric went flat.
Similarly, a steel cam requires a unique distributor gear as well. Bronze used to be common but a better substitute, according to Mike Jones at Jones Cams, is a mellonized steel gear (not iron).
It would be interesting to know if such a thing exists for the pump pushrod. A quick search didn't reveal anything though.

Re: fuel pump rod
I've used both bronze tipped ones and roller ones.
Comp 4607 & 4609; Moroso 65750; there may well be others. Crower would be a suspect, Jesel, Manley, any of those guys that do hard-core racing stuff. Somebody has a polymer one also; never used one myself; Howards maybe?
