Good Starter for 1988 Pontiac Firebird Formula w/305 H.O.

My Firebird is currently experiencing some wicked heat soak in the starter. I’m replacing the stock exhaust with a Magnaflow Exhaust and while I do that I’m looking to replace my starter as well. It’s a 5 Speed Manual Transmission and I’m unsure if that will change the type of starter I need. Any suggestions on the starter I should put in to replace the stock pile of crap in there currently?

Since it’s a 305 will it have a 153 Tooth Flywheel? Also do you by chance know the best place to purchase one? Online or in Store?

Ask for a 93-97 f-body starter.

88-96 vet is a bit different, it'll work but requires a couple small reversible mods

What kind of mods are we talking? I’m kinda new to 3rd gens. To be honest a link to a good starter would solve most of my problems. Money isn’t an issue and neither is the work. Just finding the right starter for this car considering the exhaust runs right underneath the starter I really just wanna resolve that issue. Thanks for your advice! I really appreciate it!

My LT1 starter only required a bit more wire and longer bolts IIRC. And always get the HEAT SHIELD, they will prolong the life of your starter

The Denso LT1 starter is a great unit. Small, light, long lasting. Winner. I second (third?) that advice.

You'll have to take the wires out of the factory hangers and clips to move them closer to the shorter vet starter. May have to clearance the starter pad on some of the Vet starters to.
The 93-7 f-body starter seems to be more of a direct bolt in.

Any info about the different bolts for this starter?
