Water temp in Engine bay

I'm considering adding a liquid filled water temp gauge on the engine plumbed from the hole on top of the water pump that is normally plugged. The 3/8" brass tube rises up ~8" before dead ending on the gauge.
My concern is an air pocket will most like form when the engine is off so will the flow of water flush out the air pocket or will air get stuck up by the gauge resulting in incorrect readings?
I could look for a 3/8" slim design brass air relief valve to resolve but considering this may be going to far so just plug the hole and go without.

Opinions and any real life experience are welcomed

Thanks

How about something more generally useful, like this? https://www.harborfreight.com/121-in...ter-63985.html

Why tho?? Do you not have a working gauge?? Or just use a temp gun

Re: Water temp in Engine bay

I have the gauge on the dash. Decided not to install on engine, after thinking about it for a day, agree it's too much.
