Re: Help for bearing choice please

The Flint Mi. assembly plant used many different over and undersize bearings. The .0005" was common. Unfortunately, not available in after-market that I am aware of.
With anything this old it is best to determine what exactly we are dealing with. All crankshafts have a casting number located on one of the rough finished throws or counterweights towards the front of the crank.
And
The Casting Number of the block (unfortunately) not what you listed above. The casting number is found at the rear of the block on the driver's side.

Once you get those numbers post them, and we can go from there.

Yes indeed - We need both to make a somewhat educated (if we believe in such a thing) guess.

The cast number of the block is located in the back of the block. The opposite side of where you found the VIN info.

Re: Help for bearing choice please

Took a bit to understand the codes you posted.

V0622
Flint Michigan plant June 22

C2W
1982 305. 155 hp and came with a 4 barrel carb.

1CN154479
The last 9 digits of the vehicle the engine originally came from.
Year digit is C so the block came from a 1982 vehicle which matches the suffix code.

Since you've already claimed it was a 1982 305, I would have to say the engine is still original so the VIN on the block should match the VIN on the car. Chances are that the engine has been disassembled and had machine work previously done to it is very slim.

As for the proper sized rod bearings, without measuring tools, you're only going to guess on how close the stock crank is to spec. Buy standard sized bearings. Use plastigage to check clearances. If within limits, keep assembling. If the bearing clearance is too tight or loose, return the bearings for a different sized set. If there was any sort of damage to the crank or old bearings, the crank should be turned and proper resized bearings installed.

Ok thanks.
I will measure crankshaft to see if it's origin or resized.
if it's origin i will buy standard bearing and verify with plastigage.
But i'm Lost with all model on rockauto and with the A/H/V/P.... Séries, which one i need for classic use ?
And which Brand are good ?
Thanks a lot

Re: Help for bearing choice please

An H series bearing will do just fine. P series is very old school style and isn't really used any more. V and M should not be in a daily driver engine. Don't know what an A is.
Clevite is the most popular choice for bearing brand.
