Camshaft dowel pins. Replacements do exist right?
The dowel pin I removed that is too short measures .246” in diameter. When I search for SBC cam dowel pins I only get 5/8” pins in the results for FT cams I assume but nothing for the roller cams. Where the **** can I find one of these? It needs to be extra long and not hardened steel.

Any cam company can provide you with that...

While true I was hoping for a more convenient source since the cam companies don’t readily sell them without a cam in the box with it. You have to go through customer service then hope they will sell you what you need and what I need is pretty specific since this is for a gen2 LT1 and needs to be longer than just any other roller cam.

Anyone selling drill rod should have stock to make them by the dozen. That used to be just about every other street in a town that had any sort of manufacturing going on. Now with the internet selling everything and stocking nothing, you may have to wait a week to get a 12¢ piece of stock.
Incidentally, 0.246" is a "D" drill in case you still have a source that doesn't include "home" in the name or description. The stub end of a "D" drill could be cut off to the length you like.

perfect solution! I think the HRC of the dowel is a 58 so you’re right about that. But yesterday, after what felt like an eternity on hold, I got through to Comp, and even though it isn’t their cam, they’re sending me a variety pack of cam dowels. But if that solution doesn’t work I will most definitely go that route. I was even looking into pin gauges as a solution but most of those are hardened and that’s not something you want as a cam dowel even though you should never break one.
