CARBON CANISTER 91 TA 305 TPI
I've had vehicles with Carbon Canisters and Evap Canisters before, but never kept them long enough other than to change the filter at the bottom, when equipped.
This car apparently has activated carbon/charcoal and filters within the sealed canister. I think this component is akin to the 33 year old steering wheel air bag. How do you know if it's functional? How do you know if it needs service? There's no real test procedure or service procedure that I can find. I also cannot find a new OEM or aftermaket replacement, if I just wanted to change it out. (Part #17090155.)
Thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated. I just had an intermittent DTC 32, and I think I found the issue to be cracked and split 90 degree rubber boots on the EGR solenoid vacuum lines, but I want to address everything even remotely related to emissions control.
TIA.

It is not designed to be serviced or maintained. Unless you are chasing a fuel vapor smell it's probably working fine and can be left alone.
They are very simple. Just a container filled with charcoal and vent through the bottom, with a vacuum hose attachment to suck the vapors out by force when the engine is running and a filter to keep charcoal particles from getting sucked into your engine.
You can rebuild them easy.
