1988 Camaro HVAC issues

looking for help, my Hvac climate control was automatically going through defrost only. i fixed the disk that changes the vents as it was hissing. i also replaced the climate control vacuum valve which was also hissing. still only defrost working. if i remove the rubber connector on the left side of climate control head (the ruber connector that has the grey any purple lines) and use a small piece of vacuum hose to connect the grey and purple bypassing the control valve everything functions as normal. wondering why when the control valve on left of head is connected properly, it doesnt work. side note my vacuum ball is still there but the cruise control was deleted so the ball doesnt have source vacuum going in and nothing is connected going out. my source vacuum for Hvac comes directly from check valve off the rear plenum port. Any help would be appreciated.
