Car no start after instrument cluster removal to change lights

Could this be a vats related problem?
Was able to start the car hitting the purple starter wire to battery.
Not able to read codes, not sure if it's my method or the instrument cluster is dead.
Using a dongle I picked up at AutoZone some years ago.

I must have blown the starter enable relay, jumpered across the terminal and the car started.
