ok guys, cam question again
ok i installed a crane powermax 2032 roller cam specs are dur @50 214/220 112 lobe sep, lift .452/.465 crane lists this for camaro/corvette 350 TPI, adj fuel pressure recommended, well my car doesnt feel like it has the power it should before i changed the cam and especially with my mods. heres a list of my mods.
88 305 bored .20 over
WP S/r torquer 305 heads 1.94/1.50 58cc
Edelbrock Performer intake manifold
stock 1986 rochester computer controlled q-jet, with CC Rods
Hypertech Thermomaster power chip
305 H.O. Air Cleaner
Mallory High Output Coil
Headman Coated Shorty Headers
Gutted Cat
Edelbrock RPM Series 3" Cat-back
T5 5 Speed
3.23 Posi
now i'm wondering if its the rear gear ratio that is setting me back now?
i'll be putting in 3.73's soon, but your opinions are welcome
also would the stock fuel pump supply enough fuel for these
mods?
thanx guys

That cam should be good from 1500-4500 rpms. How high do you rev your engine? Actually I think the 3:73s might be little much for that cam, you might want to go with 3:42s.

i only rev it till about 5500, the cam specs say basic rpm range is 2000-5500 rpms, 3.73's too much?? i dont think so those 3.23's in there now feel weak.

how do the 3.23's feel week if you haven't driven it with 3.73's. what is your timing set at and what has been done to the carb. if it's running lean or doesn't have enough timing then it'll feel not much better than stock. i've driven and worked on car's similar to your's and the tramission is fairly deep geared to start with so i wouldn't say your gear is holding you back. the swap may gain .2 in the quarter or so, but it won't be worth it on the highway.

Well compare his mods and my mods, and we are as far as i know, very close to being evenly matched...
personally chris, i thin you need to dump the computer controlled carb, and get tpi. or slap a holly and a performer intake on there... you saw how my car moves with the stuff i got...

hey steve! long time no talk been working this 3rd shift crap, anyhow guys, the reason why i'm thinking gearing is because when i used the crane 2030 that i sold to steve the car hauled, but now that i put this cam in it doesnt feel like i have the torque, now comparing my current cam specs to other crane cams, they recommend 3.45 or numerically higher gears, i have a new posi and 3.73 gears on my desk that are going in my car, i want to convert to TPI also but for now, i have the carb 2bbl untouched and its the computer controlled one, i'm running CC jets in the 4bbl i forgot which hanger, when i hit the 4bbl it hauls, but doesnt feel like it is moving like it should with my mods, i tried my timing at 6 degrees, 8 and 10, i'm using 8 now it feels the best.
also zippy i have the t5 with the 2.95 1st gear, when i take off the car gets up and goes rather nicely, until i start to get out of 2nd, then it just doesnt feel like it has much life

For starters, that cam isn't TOO much more aggressive aggressive than the one you had in there:
Stock : 207/213 duration, 415/430 lift.
Any benefit you see from the new cam over the stock won't really be recognized until you wind 'er up, and only then you're looking at.. I dunno, 20 hp? Which isn't all that easy to "butt-dyno" when you're at 5,000+RPM. Any torque differences through the powerband will be slight, and hard to feel when you already have 300+ ft/lbs on tap.
I was going to suggest the restrictions of the TPI, but I see you're running a carb. Good man.
Perhaps your timing is less than dialed. When I went from a luke-cold LG-4 to a mild 350 I was somewhat disappointed with the difference - and then I noticed that the initial timing was at something like 2 degrees and was getting MAYBE another 10 deg thrown in by the extremely-crusted distributor. WHOOPS.
10 minutes with a timing light and a spring/weight swap and you may be laughin.
Also, try playing with the rate at which the secondaries on the carb flop open, Damon(?) or someone wrote an article on that.
I don't think a Holley is necessary for your application, of course, it wouldn't hurt anything if you had some money to throw around.

Well here's the other thing hype- When he did the cam, he also did the heads. I would have expected to see a few extra pony's from the head/cam combo.
Chris- if you want i can show you how to loosen that that flap up for the 2ndaries. I also have some other hangers and rods sittin around from my old q'... i think maybe you just need to loosen that AV up....
also, i think we have the same gearing in the trans chris- mine is the 2.94 1st gear and the .63 overdrive....

steve my tranny has a 2.95 1st gear ratio, and i did adjust the flaps on the carb, i'm using CC rods, i have an A/F gauge, it goes rich when i mash the throttle, the car picks up and goes without hesitation, i dunno maybe it's just me, but it doesnt seem like it moves like it should with my mods, the 2bbl always shows lean though....
