Diagnosing Fuel pump and sender
Hey guys,
I have an 89 Firebird Formula 5.0L TPI (VIN code F). After a few years of sitting in storage my car developed two issues:
1) the fuel gage is constantly pegged above full
2) the fuel pump is dead
I tested my fuel sender by hooking up a multimeter to the harness coming off the fuel tank, set to ohms, and probed the Pink and Ground, I got a reading of .34 ohms, which makes sense since I put about 5 gallons in and the range is 0 (empty) to 90 (full) ohms. I tested the side coming from the dash for power by probing the Tan and ground and got 9.5 volts. A little low, but I assume this was because my battery has been on a trickle charger. This leads me to believe my gage and not my sender is the problem. Would you guys agree?
I tested my fuel pump by checking the fuse under the dash, also the one in the engine bay by the battery and both were good. I tested the Fuel pump relay by removing the cap and turning to the key run, I watched the relay snap shut for 2-3 seconds then open. I also applied 12v directly to terminal G of the ALDL. The fuel pump didn't make any noise. And finally, I have 0 fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Am i missing anything or can i assume i have a dead fuel pump on my hands? Looking for some additional confirmation before I go dropping the tank.
And thank you to everyone who contributes to this site, it was the only way I was able to research the procedures to even test this stuff.
So to summarize, do you guys agree I have a bad fuel gage and dead fuel pump on my hands? Can anyone recommend a fuel pump and sending unit? I am having trouble finding an AC Delco and I'd like to stick with OEM. If not, i've heard spectra mentioned a few times, any other suggestions? Ideally i'd like to find the whole pump/sender assembly
Thanks

I believe so, I probed the Pink and ground coming off the harness from the tank with the continuity setting and got continuity on my meter. That would confirm it's good, right?
