Single flash check engine light?
Single flash check engine light?
1991 Camaro rs 5.0 tbi and when I turn the key to the run position the CEL comes on and blinks once and stays on when the car runs. The car runs perfectly fine but just don’t want the CEL on so if anyone can help that would be great thanks.
Re: Single flash check engine light?
The MIL/SES lamp is supposed to flash once when the ignition is first turned on. The sequence is that the lamp turns on when the ignition is powered, will turn off for about half a second, and then turn back on and remain on until the engine is running. If the lamp remains on after the engine is running, the ECM is detecting an error. Retrieve the trouble codes for a hint toward what the ECM doesn't like.

Reason the light stays on is, there's a trouble code that's been set. The ECM is seeing something outside of its concept of "normal".
Retrieve the codes.
For that, you need a code reader. Being highly specialized and for antique cars, they're SSSOOOOOOOPPPPPPPER expensive. Especially since you can't buy just one. (well, maybe you can, never tried, actually...) Like here, this is a pack of 1000 code readers. https://www.staples.com/staples-pape...product_472498
