Check engine light help needed

My check engine light does not work at all. Cannot pull any error codes from the ecm. Turn the key to the run position and no check engine light. Any idea how I can go about fixing this issue?

Sorry should have added that the bulb is fine, doubled checked it, and even tried a new bulb.

Check This Out !

With the ignition OFF disconnect the ECM.

Using a fused jumper
(1 amp is good) ground pin A5 of the connector (not the ECM).

Now, turn the key to the RUN position.

Does the
Service Engine Soon light come on now?

Re: Check This Out !

K, tried that and it does not come on. Anything else to try or check??
When I disconnected the ecm I undid both connectors, was this the correct thing to do?

That’s fine.

The purpose of disconnecting the connector(s) was to prevent damage to the ECM from voltage being applied to the wrong place when you were probing A5.

Due to the fact the
Service Engine Soon did not illuminate when you grounded A5 of the connector means there is a break in the connection to the bulb.

The break might be in the wiring, connector, or PCB trace
(difficult to see).

With the ECM still disconnected, remove the
Service Engine Soon bulb, then turn the key to RUN.

Now using a voltmeter or test light
(the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) probe the bulb socket.

One side must have power.

Turn the key to OFF, then remove the bulb, and grab an ohmmeter.

Probe the other side of the socket with one of the ohmmeter leads, and the other lead to A5 of the disconnected ECM connector.

There should be one ohm or less in that circuit.

What are your results?

Happy Racing!

Re: Check This Out !

Any idea what colour the wire is on the back of the dash for the check engine light? And would it be the upper or lower connector?
No power at all to the light socket.

Re: Check This Out !

Problem finally solved. Now that the problem is fixed I feel quite stupid, lol. Turns out someone had removed the bulb and socket and put it into a differant place, then taped over the spot for the check engine light.
So I removed the tape, placed the light in the correct spot and now it works like it should. And to top it all of no error codes.
3 weekends trying to sovle this and turns out to be something stupidly simple.
Anyways thanks for the help guys.
