Hey guys, I recently did my swap and decided to swap to a carburetor with my crate motor however I kept the ECU to retain the in tank fuel pump and possibly the TPI charcoal canister functionality, my question is will my TPI charcoal canister work with the carbed setup as long as I keep the ECM running? right now I have the line on the top hooked to full manifold vacuum. I heard these things are very useful to have in terms of fighting stinky car syndrome and can even lead to a 10% increase in fuel economy, pretty cool!
I am by no means an expert with the fuel systems in the later models, and I don't know what scheme of evap the EFI systems had (partial vacuum, switched vacuum, self testing ect) That being said, you should be able to run full manifold vacuum from the carb or intake if the carb does not have a port to the purge solenoid and the system will function normally if the ECU does not disable evap functions when in a fault mode (it will certainly have faults when it sees ignition power but no fuel injectors, to say nothing of any other components).
