gas line between pump and carb
gas line between pump and carb
OK, i am having a bad day so i need some help.
working on a 84 camaro berlineta 2.8l carbed engine. I bought this car with 74k miles for 500 bucks.Watched some guys working on it with a pair of pliers, hammer and a screwdriver.
on to the question, I need to replace the fuel line between the fuel pump and carb. has anyone does this? It does not look easy. the 5/16 connection on the carb looks like it is almost perfectly round and the line seems to be messed up as it is very hard to turn the rounded 5/16th nut even . Any help would be appreciated.
started this because after 3 days the gas line drains all the way back to the tank and i am tired of priming the carb.

Re: gas line between pump and carb
If the fitting has been damaged that badly, the line may have to be cut and carb may have to be removed just to provide adequate access to deal with it properly.
That pump may also be a candidate for replacement, since its check valves should prevent the fuel from draining back to the tank.
Another oddity is that '82-83 Camaros with the carbed 151CI engine had an electric booster pump in the tank, just as the '84 305 (G) engines, but the '84 V-6 evidently didn't get that. Such an arrangement would have probably eliminated the problem with the line draining back to the tank.

Re: gas line between pump and carb
thanks for the input, I an i the process of repair,
what i found so far
all the rubber gas lines were in questionable state, and half the clamps for the hoses were missing or broke on removal.
fuel pump had been replaced. cheap but check valve seemed ok. Ordered new pump
fuel filter in carb had been damaged, bent in middle, came out that way, and some type of pipe dope on the end of the 5/16 fuel line to carb making almost impossible to turn. I user a fine point file and was able to remove it, so fuel line from pump to carb will be on my wish list for later.
thank you again for the help, some times i need a kick in the rear to motivate, will be reporting on outcome as soon as i get more parts installed and test.
