Sitting IROC rehab advice

Hello!
I just picked up a 88 IROC 5.0 TPI with 99k original miles (stock). Its been garaged since 2011, but sitting for the past few years. The owner started it every month up until 4 or 5 years ago.. currently not running, it sat with some gas in it.

I dropped the tank and the fuel pump is gummed up, and the inside of the tank is all corroded and gummed up as well. When disconnecting the tank there was a small dribble from the lines of a dark strong smelling gas (almost lacquer like).
I am planning on swapping in the tank from a 5.0 RS TBI.

I know the TPI requires a different fuel pump but can I use the fuel pump module out of the RS? Suggestions on a pump?
What else should I look into knowing that it has sat for a few years?
I'd love to not replace the fuel lines if I don't have to, but the tank is already out so it probably wouldn't be terrible.

Thanks!

Most people complain about removing fuel tanks. You did it twice and at the same time. #respect

Because you went this far I would suggest ordering a fuel sending unit. Spectre is what I think I went with. Make sure the fuel level variable resistor is what you need - 0 - 90 ohms or something else.

Definitely a fuel pump, sock and a nice fuel filter should be on order. I dont have any experience with TPI fuel regulators but I would suggest restoring all the fuel components based on what that fuel pump looks like.

Would rather spend the time and money now with results of a nice running car with no problems.

My two cents, for what their worth.

Re: Sitting IROC rehab advice

I would plan on replacing the injectors and fuel pressure regulator as well if it sat up with bad gas and definitely if the injectors are original, also a set of O-rings for the fuel rail would likely be a good idea.

When I did my pump I went with an AC Delco Genuine GM with a spectra sending unit and have had no issues. I have had mixed results with a lot of Delco stuff lately but the pump seems fine so far.

Haha appreciate that. The tanks are a bear..

Thanks for your 2 cents, I ordered the spectre, pump, injectors, o rings, regulator etc. I got the car at a really good price so I may as well do it right.

Oh man if things are that bad I'd definitely be checking the integrity of the fuel lines themselves. You don't want to do all that work just to turn the key and see fuel spraying all over the ground

Re: Sitting IROC rehab advice

Yeah that's good advice. The car apparently agrees. The fuel line fittings were completely seized to the lines, so I am replacing the lines after all.

Re: Sitting IROC rehab advice

That's probably safest. The pressure of the TPI is 3 times that of TBI, and while good steel lines would probably survive either, the rubber needs to be rated for the higher working pressure.

Re: Sitting IROC rehab advice

Seeing the pump & sender and what the OP said about the lines, I would recommend a new fuel tank .
