I have an 88 tpi 350

1/ car doesnt start properly it cranks over for probalby 30 sec or more and then fires and pumps clouds of black smoke out the back this is only on the first start or after a couple of hours I have also noticed that if it sits for a few days it usually fires first go

2/ performance is intermittent some days it has heaps of grunt others it just bogs when you accelerate

3/ does gutting the cat affect how the o2 sensor works?

(1) Sounds like you're getting flooded or not good spark. Possible problems: weak spark, leaking fuel injectors, bad fpr, bad coolant temp sensor, bad MAF

(2) Again, fuel or spark problem. Could be ignition related(spark plugs, wires, coil, etc) or fuel related. Possibly a fuel filter. Could also be a sensor such as coolant temp, o2, maf.

(3) No.
