Location of engine identification number (from above)

Hi all,

I just forgot the location of engine identification number that can be seen from above with the hood open.

My car is 1991 Camaro convertible with V8 5.0 TPI. There must be one that I can see from above easily.

Any information is welcome. Thanks.

Front of passenger-side engine block deck. You may need to remove an accessory to see the stampings:

Thanks for your reply!

I looked thoroughly at that area but couldn't find it, so probably I need to remove the AC compressor. I thought I could find it more easily before, but maybe that was my misunderstanding.

I was unable to see mine (stock TPI) due to wires and emissions in the way until I had to remove everything apart when replacing the fuel injectors.
Still have the original R7U block 😀

Besides the suffix can use a mirror and get the block casting behind the drivers side head on the block. If original 305 it will have block number and 5.0 on the block.

Re: Location of engine identification number (from above)

The deck will be bare on an original black-painted block. [ The orange above covers the location. ]

Re: Location of engine identification number (from above)

Thank you, guys.

I remember an inspector in the vehicle inspection in Japan found some number on the engine and told me it was the same as that on the inspection certificate and there was no problem, but I now wonder which number he was referring to. He couldn’t see any number on the engine without taking out any parts, could he?
