Spark Plug Socket for Headers
Spark Plug Socket for Headers
Really don't like headers on a thirdgen, when it come sot changing plugs. With my back these days, I don't wanna climb under to get a few of them. My 2nd TA with these Hooker mid-lenght headers.
Figured I'd share the results of cutting up a few plug sockets. So far they seem to make it a lot easier.
Hopefully it saves some time and headache!

Re: Spark Plug Socket for Headers
For all the years I've been dealing with SBCs and headers, I've been using wrenches. Straight ones, bent ones, ones with an offset, sockets I can put a wrench on, etc.; basically, any and every variation of 13/16", and later 5/8", wrench, that I could find. I even "customized" a few with heat for some particular customers' motors. Especially since some headers over the yrears have been routed such that it's completely impossible to get ANY kind of socket WHATSOEVER onto the plug, or the steering column was in the way (attention tri-5 owners), or whatever.
Butt hay, any trick that allows you to get your particular spark plugs out of (and back into) your particular car with your particular headers, especially if it's easier than whatever you were doing before, is a BIG WIN.

Re: Spark Plug Socket for Headers
Mine is a little different. BBC with 2-1/4" primary tubes means spark plug access is very restricted.
I use multiple tools to pull plugs. Deep spark plug socket with a wobble extension and a deep plug socket with a box end. These are mainly used to loosen and tighten the plugs. Once they're loose, I slip a piece of vacuum hose over the plug and spin it out. Changing plugs isn't a quick 10 minute job. I also have to index all my plugs so that the dome on the piston doesn't hit the ground strap.
Oh the joys of having a race engine.
