305
305
so i just recently became a chevy person as i got a camaro. always loved them but owned old bmws for most of it. but i need help. because i cant get a forsure awnser. the 383 dropped a valve in a s10 so this 305 was going to be the replacement but now the 283 is. so the camaro is getting the 305. till the 383 is done. long story short its alot of stuff going on either way. i have the engine on the stand got er all cleaned up etc. my quuestion now is what is this engine?
it says its a 5.0 i bought it out of a monte carlo ss 1988
14093627 number on the rear. the heads end with 081. also the front patch on the left side of the engine was bare and shiny no numbers or anything. it had a 4 barrel quadro jet. but it has o2's. and the smog stuff. had a high volume fuel pump. also the alluminum black intake. i looked it up doesnt have rollers but is roller capable from people tell me i just cant get a clear awnser on the hp torque and what 305 it is.

Re: 305
On the surface it sounds like exactly what it was claimed to be. A whopping 170-180ish hp and 225 ftlbs. But unless you open it up and start checking things, you never really know. Nearly 40 years a lot could have changed. Either way, it's probably still just a tame 305.
