Ported out 355 build

What's up gents, Just looking for some opinions. Helping my son rebuild his 87 GTA. First time jumping into a 350 and fuel injection. Most of my experience has been in old international scouts. We had the block machined and ported out to a 355. Putting in forged flat top pistons. We.re going to pick up Aluminum heads and I'm not sure which Cam would be appropriate for our goals. We're looking to get this puppy to put out at least 400Hp but I've read that the TPI will hamper that dramatically. We like the TPI look and would like to keep it if we can. I've seen that they make replacement lower manifolds for the Tpi.
So my questions are, Is this achievable if we upgrade the Tpi base manifold
and What are your opinions on a cam for this application.
Thanks

scout guy here as well

buy a rolled cehvy truck/tahoe/subrban and LS swap it.
the old SBC is nice, but a $500 Ls engine with a $250 cam will make 400 crank hp.
and get 22 MPGs and be lots more fun to drive then the old TPI engine.

-this is coming from someone who has done what youre goign to do, and whishes he never wasted the money...

HaHa, Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to talk the little guy out of it but he really wants to keep the original engine.

Re: Ported out 355 build

A TPI 350 would be an excellent motor for this application, but it will never make 400hp.

Hell YEAH!. There you go.

Went to a C&C last summer saw a patina'd IH Travelall there, nicely proportioned lift kit, not-too-big-wheels, w/properly sized tires to give it a great look....walk over to look at the 304 or 345 and....LSwhatever in there.
Waa....WAAAAAAA. (Debbie downer sound). Walked away.

Re: Ported out 355 build

I have a 1966 1200a international pickup from our farm, I'm 2nd owner (still in the family).
trying to find a fuel tank and sending unit other than aftermarket sucks. Also need a water pump.
Or do i TPI swap it?

So I went through this. See recommendations. I ended up going with the Crower cam.
