Vents don't work...help!

Whenever I turn on my heat it come out of only one place, the defroster vents. When i put it on "vent" it comes out the defroster, when i put it on heat, it comes out the defroster. I dont kno what is wrong. I just replaced the vaccume tube from the vaccume canister because it was melted in two peices. It still doesnt work. What is wrong? Is the panel fried or are there loose wires or tubes. I dont even know how that system works. Anything would help me. Thanks.

I think the selecter switch is electrical... check for fuses? If it's mechanical, maybe the linkage fell off. A fuse check might be a good start... sorry I'm not of much help.

the controls in my 86 are vacuum actuated. If you were working on the car you may have disloged a tube. The main feed tube under the hood runs above the distributor and is clipped along the firewall... make sure it goes somewhere
