which cam ??

Hey guys and gals,

I have a 86 T-A with a NEW 305 and rebuilt tranny. I have done alot of the free mods to the carb. and am considering putting in a better cam for more H.P. but I want to still be able to street drive it as well. can anyone suggest which brand and type of cam would be the best of both worlds, I know I can't have my cake and eat it to, but something in the middle would be nice.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !!!

Comp Cams Extreme Energy cams seem to be very popular. That's what was recommended to me. Just be sure to match it's power band to the rest of your motor, TC and gears.

Your best bet would be Comp Cams XE256H-10 part# 12-234-2.

thanks for the suggestions, is there any other work that should be done at the same time (machining, etc.) I really don't want to go to that extream. how about a intake that will be a direct replacement for the stock unit (fit all accys.brackets, carb, etc.), any suggestions here ?????

If your car has over 150k miles, or close I'd get a new timing chain. The Edelbrock Performer would be a good intake and the only thing you might need would be a carb adapter.

the motor is new (4000 mis.) along with the rebuilt tranny (4000 mis), I just don't want to end up with a rough idling race car. i only want to improve H.P. as much as possible with the least amount of agrivation and still be smoooooth, I have a 1800 rpm stall and stock rearend (???? ratio)
