When is it time for new springs/studs?

How much lift is too much for stock springs and pressed studs?

If you are contemplating a cam change, then you are probably already in need for new springs. The studs are fine until you get into really high RPM and spring tensions. If you need to mill your heads for oversized springs, then you need to change to screw-in studs.

I'd say that if your valve lift is over .450" then you should look into different springs, or at least look carefully at spring bind. if you are going to rev the motor beyond 5000 RPM, get new springs. Buy the ones that are recommended by the cam manufacturer and you wont go wrong. (at least until you set up the springs!)
