305 rebuild
hey guys the 350 is on its last legs so i am gonna rebuild the 305 the came with the car when i bought it. my dad said to have everything machined just to be on the safe side but the cylinders look great. so my ? was can i just flush out the engine with some degreaser/soap/garden hose and dry it with an air compressor? then coat it with some wd4o to prevent rust. just tryin to save some money that i will need for insurance. thanx

Put the 305 in as-is and rebuild the 350. Don't waste your money on machine work for a 305.
I've rebuilt several non-performance using a re-ring kit [rings ,bearings, gaskets]. If the engine was running and and had good oil pressure went you took it out it probably won't need any machince work. Just check your piston to bore clearance and your rod and main bearing clearance to order the new parts. Some may scoff but I built these non- perf. motors using feeler gages and plasti-gage,just have the heads done and the block honed. Of course if your're looking for performance do as the 57 kid says, build the 350.
