zz4 cam

What would this cam do for me? I have a L98 with full exhaust soon to have runners and intake work done. Probably a 2400 stall. I have the stock L98 cam there now and I hate to say it but i dont even know the specs on that cam. A friend of mine may be sellin his since he is upgrading and was wonderin what would be the better route. zz4 cam or new cam.

Thanks,

Jesse

It depends

If you plan on doing more mods then listed then you should look into the Compcams 276 or the Cranes cam 2032.

I've had a ZZ4 cam in an L98 engine and if you have 10 horsepower you should be happy. In my opinion it isnt much better then stock. Go with a comp cams roller with something like 220-225 duration and around .500 lift for a stock L98 with bolt ons. YOu should see low 13s easily.

According to the Tech Data link on this board, the L98 cam specs are 202/207 duration @ .050", .413/.428 lift, 114.5 LSA.

ZZ4 specs are 208/221 duration @ .050", .474/.510 lift, 112 LSA.

If nothing else was changed (runners, porting, chip), I'd believe the 10 hp gain claim. But, with shorter runners, base & plenum porting, AFPR, and PROM tuning, the gains should be much more substantial.
