HEY

I just did this to my 89 T/A

It was the Holley Standard Pressure pump, I think the lable is red, but it is still the same size as the others as far as I know

I put it under the hood, on the left side of the inner fender, I drilled 2 holes into the fender(the inside of course..you cant see them)
The nice thing about putting it there is that(at least on TBI cars) there is really barely any fuel line re-routing.
I had to cut the steel feed line, put a rubber hose on it, and then run it into the pump via a screw in fitting. From there, I ran rubber hose on the pump output to the carb, and when I get off my lazy ***, im gonna make it a steel line.

Also, dont forget to plug the fuel return!!! at least on original TBI cars. I made this mistake...
it didnt leak till I filed the tank up all the way, and then it was leaking about a quart every 5 minits at the gas station, so to plug it I stuck a rubber fuel hos over it, clamped it, and jammed a suitable object into the other end, which at that time all I had was a twist style wire connector. then I clamped that.

I wired the pump to an On/Off switch, and the switch is integrated into my dash.

Hope this all helps

Peace
Joshua

I am wanting to mount it close to the tank seing as how electric pumps push better than they pull (I don't know why this is) I am going with the holley 140 gph pump and will be using the return line.

Exactly ......pumps work better AT the tank. They do, however, LOOK BETTER in the engine bay.

Make sure you get a AFPR

Yea I am getting the holley that puts out 140 gph and 14 psi so I am definately looking at afprs but I can't decide on a model I like. I am looking into getting a holley 3 port-4port models so I can run the nitrous directly off the afpr. I am also running a return line.

I put mine where the original filter is and moved the filter to the engine bay. That location is about as close to the tank as you can get. I might suggest a shield of some sort to protect from road hazards. Hope this helps!

holley clearly states to mount the filter and pump as close to the tank as you can get, i got mine mounted in the back by the bumper, its pretty tight by you can get them to fit

I was thinking of mounting my pump in front of the rear bumper like yours Tempest but I wasn't shure about the safty of putting it there. Did you put a 1 way safty valve back there for safety? The car will see some minor street use so I don't want to risk safety. I local pro street guy has his mounted there with his filter. Looked like a really clean setup. Can you show any pics of your pump mounted back there?

Thanks for all the repilys so far.

Would it impair the pump to mount it inverted like that I had also thought about mounting the pump in the same location. I didn't think of putting a shield there to protect the pump. That is a good Idea.

My inline fuel pump (Paxton blue) is very happy right in front of the axle.

I was thinking of dropping a 1/2" line by way of drilling out the stock main line and putting in a 8 an bulkhead fitting and running 1/2" aluminum all the way to the to the regulator ( just thinking of the future ) I will one day put a Big Block in. I think I am going to go like John did and put the pump were the stock filter is and put the fliter up front. I like the idea of being able to put the filter were I can get to it easy. Has anyone put a one way safty valve in with a coustom fuel setup

On a side note what brand pump did you decide to go with?

My pump isn't where the stock EFI fuel filter is. I never moved the filter, I retain all stock fuel lines too. the pump is mounted jest behind the left back seat.

I run the Holley Black Pro Series pump on my Z,it is the 140 gph one.I have it mounted behind the rear driver seat,I had to make a bracket so that it would sit vertical instead of on an angle like the seat back,my filter is located next to the frame rail just before it kicks up along the firewall(next to the tranny),I also run a filter between the tank and pump(2 total),and a Mallory three port regulator with a return port which I use to run back to the tank.I have both lines running next to one another, all braided steel lines in the car,-6AN feed line and -8AN return line.I then came out of a spare port on the regulator to feed another Mallory regulator to run the fuel side of my nitrous system. If you want some pics email me to let me know and I can take some and send them to you tonight.

was thinking of using the electric by the tank and keep the mechanical, sort of a push and pull to the regulator. no starving for fuel for sure with 1/2 lines to my poncho 400. Is this wise? or overkill.
