Which MSD cap and rotor set should I get?...
Which MSD cap and rotor set should I get?...
Well I was looking into Cap and Rotors, and I felt like going with MSD. However MSD has different kinds... if ya wanna follow along, look at page 133 at the top, in Summit Catalog (with Spring Dreaming written on the cover). Theres the normal cap and rotor that you can get from them, 18.95 for cap, and 12.95 for rotor, the cap is at the top in the maroon color. But then I noticed a different kind, called Cap-A-Dapt, which are larger caps with wider post spacing to prevent crossfire and ionization, HEI style points, and adjustable rotor allows proper phasing (chevy only), and its 37.95. I know they gave me a summary of what they do, but does anyone here know what it means in english? Are these Cap-A-Dapt ones worth it? Or should I just get the other standard MSD cap and rotors? Thanks.
CL3,
Get any good quality distributor set. Make sure the terminals are solid brass, not aluminum, amd the base material is glass filled resin. Standard Plus, Wells/Conrad Gold, Accel, Borg Warner Automotive, Niehoff, and several other aftermarketers offer such pieces, and the prices can vary widely for the same thing. Caveat emptor

there is a guy in the pontiac world that has done extensive testing with the ignition stuff and has found that the good ol' GM delcos are the best caps you can get, those expensive aftermarket caps and equil or sometimes even worse then the GM units, so get a GM delco one by name and thats the best!~

Actually instead of asking which is best, I'll just ask this... Which cap and rotor should I NOT get?
BTW whats Caveat emptor??
TempesT68, you say Delco seems to be fine, so what about coils, mine is done, think I should get MSD GM coil or an AC Delco kind? I heard MSD is better for a coil, cuz it provides more power to the plugs...

That phrase is probably as old as language itself. From the first time a Cro-Magnon man grunted at a Cro-Magno vendor (wanting the big club instead of the smaller one, but listening to the vendor saying the smaller one was lighter and faster), to medieaval fortune tellers, to medicine men, P.T. Barnum, to Pro-Long oil additives, the customer has always borne the final responsibility for his own ignorance. It's a foundation of old English and American law as well. What you don't know can cost you. How else would anyone explain the Kia?
