timing question..
timing question..
ok.. with my new setup I was told to run base timing of 0 degrees t'ill the first 1000km's.. now after this I can switch to mobil 1 synthetic and also edelbrock told me to set base timing to 8 deg. btdc.. anyone know if this will make a sotp difference???
Jeff,
After 1,000 Km of driving a rebuilt engine, you should be able to safely switch to synthetic lubricants. You are breaknig in at a retarded timing setting to minimize load on the engine and ease the break-in process. Advancing the timing will certainly make a difference in not only power but fuel efficiency as well. If the cam is ground like many other aftermarket replacements, if has a slight valve timing advance over the stock cam unless you degreed it differently. The ignition timing can be advanced a bit more to take full advantage of that.
