I had both the intake and exhaust ports ported and polished as well as the combustion chamber. Are there any advantages to having the exhaust ports ported, reason im asking is wont the carbon buildup on the ports therefore defeating the purpose of it? In the pic the head ran for about 380 miles and thats its result?

the carbon buildup shouldn't be thick enough to greatly hinder performance. Polishing the heads is really not even worth it, it's just a buzz word in my opinion. Porting, on the other hand, improves flow greatly and is always worth the effort. I can't tell from the pick how thick the buildup is, but maybe you have a carb tuning problem if it's really thick.
Even with a little buildup, the heads will flow much better after a good porting.
