Part # for S/R Torquer heads?

I have an '87 LB9 (305 TPI) Z28, and I'm not sure on which head is for me. http://www.worldcastings.com/docs/catalog/pg08.pdf I looked on this, and I'm pretty sure I need the last one, number 042650-2, right? Thanks.

It wont be too much of an improvement. They are designed as replacement iron heads, cast in alluminum. Just a worning; flow difference is minimal!

Huh? The S/R Torquer 305's are cast iron, and i'm (hoping) to get them and put them on an LB9 which also is cast iron heads.

They can be both. Why would you just want to buy replacement heads when you could up grade for almost the same amount of money?

Exactly what are you comparing them to?

They are only available in cast iron (S/R's are not available in Al). They are an upgrade over any factory 305 head.

However, they do benefit from bowl cleanup at a minimum. Every magazine article I've ever seen did that before any testing of any type, and even World recommended it when I asked them if I should do anything. That hardly qualifies them as "just replacement heads", though. Unmodified, they flow 213/166 @ .500" lift - good luck getting swirl port heads to flow that much. Figure at least 10% improvement if you do the full Standard Abrasives treatment on them (probably more).

On a TPI engine, Pop Hot Rod gained 50 hp over fresh 3-angle valve job factory LB9 heads - that was with pocket porting only, and a cam similar to a stock cam. With a better cam, the improvements will be even more. Add to that: able to handle higher valve lifts, screw-in rocker studs, and generally higher quality castings than factory. They can be installed without shaving to get the chamber volume down, have exhaust cross-over passages, are available to bolt to either style intake bolt pattern, will take perimeter or centerbolt covers, etc.

Oh, I think you want 042750 heads for '87-later intake style. -1's have regular valve springs, -2's the larger diameter types.

I know I tend to "sing the WP praises", a little too much some may say, but at least I'm basing my opinion on published figures and direct experience.

BTW, if these are just "replacement" heads, what would you call an "upgrade" head for a 305?
