Is there such as thing as a Cruise Control

that doesn't use the speedo cable? I am still screwing around with fixing my speedometer and found that the speedometer cable runs through the firewall under the master cylinder, has a threaded connection to a second cable that is going to the transmission. The threaded "break" in the cable is very hard to get to (I still haven't been able to turn the treads) because there is very little play in the cable and the threads are inconveniently placed UNDER the master cylinder.

Back to my question: is there such a thing as a cruise control unit that doesn't use a speedo cable? Best I can tell, that is what I have.

i saw an aftermarket unit once that had a sensor on either the wheel or front half shaft that spun around and next to it was a stationary detector that sensed every time the sensor made a revolution, it used this to control speed and had a control that attached to the turn signal lever.

One of those cables leading to the tranny is the tv cable if you have an auto.
I think one car that doesn't have a cable for the cruise control, is the newer vettes since they don't even have a throttle cable.
