Trunk hatch motor FUBAR'D
Trunk hatch motor FUBAR'D
How much is it going to cost to get one? Some chick slammed it shut last night and F***'d it up. People have been telling me they're expensive like a couple hundred for sure expensive. I just bought a new ECM battert and a whole bunch of diagnostics so, i'm already out 500 CDN.
Does anyone on the boards have one? THNX

I got mine on ebay for 50 bucks. But check, if it's just the plastic pieces busted there's a guy on the board who makes reinforced replacement pieces and sells em. His name is Lon Salgren, goes by lonsal on the boards, just drop him an email and he'll hook you up.

I had my uncle help me out last night and we took apart the rear "compartment" He had a 12 volt terminal and we ran it through to the motor... We figured out which prongs make it travel upwards and downwards. So it turns out the motor is fine, what probable happened is that she Screwed something else up when she slammed the trunk. I'm going to go through the setup step by step and check where the falt lies... because the motor works with power..
I'm going to write a tech article on this aswell and post pictures of my progress all i need is a little time, because i've known many people that have had hatch problems and quite frankly the $795 canadian the dealer wants JUST for the part and not install is quite freakish. So to anyone out there who's had hatch problems and just said **** it Im going to help out

he is talking about the clear plastic housing where the gears are. but I dont think this is your problem. if the motor works with power but it wont when you close the trunk then one of a couple of things happened. the alignment of the striker got messed up and isnt tripping the switch OR the switch is busted. either way the switch is a little black thing that is in the path of the striker (the bar thing that the latch grabs to pull the hatch down). if you have the trunk open and the motor/ latch comes up you can usually push on this switch and the motor will start going down until you release it and then the motor will come back up. I am not sure that you can get the switch separately from any parts store or dealer but at least try messing with it (spray with cleaner - take apart and see if its broken) to see if it works.
if it does turn out that the plastic housing is cracked then you motor may have overheated and you would need a whole new assembly. in that case go to a parts recycler and try their prices. I think I remember buying one with a return warranty for like $60 american.

Oh yea and lon salgren's nylon inserts for the latch are great I have them. they guide the whole latch thing up and down when the motor runs. if yours are cracked they probably let the trunk rattle around and would be worth replacing if you have the whole thing apart anyway. he's at www.top-downsolutions.com

A few times when my hatch slammed this is what happened. The motor raises and lowers and sometimes it wouldn't raise up, it needs to do this in order to latch. Try putting your finger down in there and there should be a switch that when pushed will raise your motor, you'll hear it. Oh, I believe there is a cover you have to remove to get to it, mines already off, guess the guy before me had the same problem.

I wish I could say the same, but I think my motor is seized. Not only are the bushings done for on the rails, but when the motor was hooked up it was hot as hell all the time. If I could fix this, I'd probably solve my leaky hatch issue. Guess its time to raid victory.
