Hi There..

I have a fitting that is leaking oil off of my TPI. It is the fitting that is on the drivers side of the TPI, there then is a black hose that runs to the PVC valve from this fitting. If you look beneath this fitting oil is coming out of it and puddling on the intake manifold.

My question is what shoud I put around the fitting to stop it from leaking ? Also, should I remove the fitting when the car is warm or cold ? Does anybody know if I need a special tool to remove this fitting or would a standard socket work ?

Chances are if oil is getting carried up that hose, the pcv valve isn't functioning properly anymore. They're pretty cheap, replace it when you get a chance...

 

Thanks. I have already replaced the pcv valve. The oil is leaking through the threads of this fitting. Looks to me like it just needs to be resealed. Just don't know what I should put on the threads when I remove and if I should do it when the car is cold or hot.

Could also be coming from the intake manifold bolts. take the intake manifold bolts loose in the area and put them back in with teflon sealent.

If that isn't it put teflon thread selant on that fitting but that much oil coming through isn't normal.

Have you replaced the valve covers with aftermarket ones?

 

Thanks for the reply...I haven't replaced valve cover gaskets with aftermarkets and the intake manifold looks ok.

The oil isn't a stream but you can see the residue of oil going down the TPI wall to the manifold valley. Does this fitting usually need to be resealed or should I just try a new hose and pcv valve ? The current pcv valve is about a year old and when you shake it it still rattles.

If the pvc valve rattles it is ok. I would think that the fitting just needs to be tightened up. The fitting should be a pype fitting but I normally put sealant on all fittings that have any contact with vacuum,or any kind of fluid just to be on the safe side. I would try tightning up the fitting first. because it is a pain to get to if it is the one I am thinking about you have to remove the runners to gain access to it or you can use a deep socket and remove the valve covers if nessary to gain access to it

 

Thanks. I think Can get a socket around the fitting. It sticks out between the runners and the manifold. Should I do this when the car is cold or warmed. I remember hearing you shouldn't work on aluminum parts if they are cold. Is this right ?

Nah it isn't really a big deal you arn't going to be putting a large ammount of force on the fitting. It will be fine to work on cold. I haven't ever worried about it and never had any problems.

 

I have machined aluminum for years and it does move quite abit when hot but you will be fine with the fitting you are working on.
