Riding bus to school sux..........
OK I have posted this everywhere and no one has solved my problem. I installed a new steering column in my Trans AM. While I was installing it I accidentally disconnected the brake booster hose so I quickly connected it. After I had finished installing it I started the car and I noticed it had a surging idle so I checked to see if I had correctly connected the brake booster hose. It was fine, then I noticed I had a spark plug wire that was not even connected! I have no idea how that happened, I connected it and my surging idle was gone. Then I found out I could not shift out of park! All the wires on the replacement column are exactly the same as the ones on the old steering column, My car has not moved for over a week now and I hate taking the bus to school!
I don't believe that shifting out of park has anything to do with your steering column, brake booster, or spark plug wires. Does your emergency brake work? I know you aren't supposed to be able to shift from park while it is down, so perhaps it isn't working correctly? Does the shifter move, or is it just stuck?
My emergency brake has not worked for over a year now the BRAKE light comes on when it is up but it doesnt work. The shifter does not move at all, it feels like when you are trying to shift without stepping on the brake pedal.
86,
No, walking to school sux.
Open the console, defeat the shift interlock to get the car moving, then diagnose the circuit by tracing the wiring. This is why having a good service manual is a VERY good idea. The interlock should be powered by the SAME tan/white wire that powere the rear hatch release and the parking brake switch.
If you don't have a test meter, this would be a good start:

I had something like that happen to my 85 camaro. In my car, there is a cable from the brake pedal to the shifter. Mine stuck, and I couldn't shift out of park. I don't really care about the car, so I found the cable under the dash and cut it with some wire cutters. That fixxed my problem, but defeated the safety factor of the interlock. I don't recommend that you cut the cable, but it may be blocked or broken.
