Whatever you do, do not buy futura gtx tires. Have them on the back of my 84 z28 with a 350. They run ok on dry roads, but when it rains I cant hold the back end down. Even just going around a curve (without even touching) the gas the rear will slide out. I was pull out at a red light the other day and turning left, they broke loose and I did a 360 in the middle of the road. Ended up sitting in the grass on the median. Just didn't want to see anyone else buy the crappy tires. My "BALD" Pirelli tires hold better than these. :lala:

yah, I used to work at PepBoys, and those tired are absolute crap, like all Futura tires.

Futura is made by Cooper, which does make some decent tires, but I would rather have others.

if ur gona get new ones, chek out BFGoodrich Radial TA, I love em, and they hold pretty well.

Just my two cents... I was debating between the BFGoodrich T/A's and Dunlop Qualifier GT's (I've always had Dunlop on my motorcycles so why not, right?).

I needed a 15" tire since I have the 15x7 Pontiac mags. I also wanted the widest tread width while still keeping the 26" diameter. (Stock tire size for my 89 Bird with the wheels were 215/65-15 which has a dia. of 26")

I was able to move up to a 235/60-15 which would have added an additional 1" to the tread width. The BF was 7.6" and the Dunlop was 7.5".

Then my wife saw the Goodyear Eagle #1 NASCAR with the gold raised letters... "Honey, that would look nice on your car!" (I'm thinking... yeah...right!). Then I started to look at the specs. 8.1" tread width!!!!

Ok, was sold on them. Ordered them from Tirerack.com and two days later I had them. For an all-season tire, it has an awesome tread design.

I can't say enough how pleased I am with them!!! Awesome traction. And on wet roads they grip just as if it ws dry....(IE: Interstate exit ramps at 80mph with a posted limit of 35! And if I do SOTP they will squeal on wet raods as if it was dry.

If you plan on going with the BFG Radial T/A's, spend the extra $9 more per tire and get the Goodyears!

Sorry so long...guess I'm a little winded tonight! :lala:

Later,
Mike

Do ya know how much those run in a 245/50/16? If they have traction like that on wet roads thats what I need. How long of a tread life warranty do they have?:hail: :hail: :hail: :hail: :hail:

I just have to say Radial T/As absolutely suck. The only good thing about them is that they last forever. After 13k miles, several nights at the drag strip, a lot of impromptu burnouts, two autocrosses of 4 runs each, and three practice autocrosses of about 25 runs each, and the suckers still have some tread left. Too bad I never had any traction for any of it, and they suck in any water. If any water gets on them, they want to kick out the assend of the car. Besides the nascar tires, I think Kumho has some tires near the price of the radial T/As.

They don't make the Eagle#1 NASCAR in 245/50-16 but they have 235's

P235/55R16 96S RGL 6.5- 8.5 7.5 9.6 26.1 8.5 1,565

The specs are SIZE/SPEED/LEETERING/RimWidth/Measured Rim Width/Cross Section/Diameter/Tread Width/Max.Load

The next size for the 16" is 285's!

P285/60R16 111S RGL 8.0- 10.0 8.5 11.5 29.4 8.9 2,403

You'll notice that the 285's are 3" taller!!! The 235's are right in the correct range for our 3rdgens!

For the 235's, they are $98 a piece from Tirerack.com

I really didn't know to expect from the NASCAR Eagle 1's. I had a set of Goodyears on a long time ago (73 TransAm) and I hated them!!! Wet traction sucked!

I needed a GOOD all-season as I drive from Providence, RI to Boston, MA everyday for work (137 miles round trip).

But I am very impressed with the NASCAR Eagle 1's.. especially on wet roads.

Now I'm glad I listened to the wife... plus you do get a lot of second looks from people when they see the tires. Gold/Yellow Raised letters wit the NASCAR Logo on them... it's an eye catcher!

the nascar tires are basicly an eagle gt II. not impressive for dry grip either with any real power. as for the radial t/a's, they aren't made for competition. that is why bf goodrich sells comp t/a's. the radial t/a is pretty much an all season tire for very mild performance and that's about it. the nascar tires are made to look good and won't hook any better than the radial t/a's under much power.

BF Goodrich has major brand recognition, but their quality has gone DOWN. I have ajusted many of their tires at work.
Worst have been Radial T/A and Long Trail T/A.
I also had a pair of Comp T/A ZR P245/45ZR16 on my old 82 Z28, they wore evenly across bald in 7,000 miles. Dry grip was great, wet was so-so. But treadlife SUCKED.
I used to be a Goodyear person, but have switched to Bridgestone!!
They make KICK-A$$ tires. The S-02 Pole Positions are INCREDIBLE in the Wet & Dry, and they are holding up very well at 5000 miles showing very little wear. They are pricey, but the RE730 & RE950 are both top notch and a good value!!

My Iroc loves Goodyear F1's It's like driving on a velcro road. It takes a lot of effort to break them loose and between them and the susp kit I shattered my flex plate. Now thats traction! Tire Rack can get them for 180ea but you have to ask for them. I can make a pair last 2 years. Firestones are death tires! I had a firehawk go out Explorer style on my '90 Z-24 this weekend. A 4X2" section of tread came off and the inner cords where bulged out ready to blow It was maybe 2 years old and on the back!

I concure. BFG Radial T/A's are great. They are not the best - but for the money, they cant be beat! I drive my car everyday, all year round But these sucker will even allow me to move in snow, abeit not well, but hey, dry traction = awsome, wet = ok, snow = well, at least I have only been stuck twice, and got her out both times!

I just bought a set of Fisk Phantom ZRX's from discount tire,(less than $100 a piece for 245-50-16's) and they seem to be a pretty good tire. The salesman said they were comparable to comp T/A VR-4's.

They're definately stickier than my firehawks were, but my experience with them is still limited.

Does anyone on here have any experience with them?

Futura super sport gtx are the crappy tires I was referring. Know alot of people with coopers who like them and was actually thinking of getting a set of the cooper cobra's. What kind of feedback can you give me on those.

I had a set of cooper cobras and liked them. Really stuck good and got decent mileage out of them. Next I bought a set of cooper vipers and they were terrible. Tread wear sucked and they always had a vibration. Didnt stick as well as the cobras. A set of yokohamas I had were somewhere between the 2 coopers. Now I have a set of pirellis. They have a 50,000 mile tread ware and seem to be as sticky as any of the other tires. They are also the best tire I've tried for rain. So far I'd buy the pirellis again any day. Every set of BFGs I've owned have always broken cords. First set went through 2 tires before 50% tread wear. Next set 3 tires. Dunlop G/ts I have better luck with. Havent tried them on the firebird but have used them on a couple of trucks and a big block velle.
