Is it possible to light em up with 2.77s?...
Hey all my car is running rather sluggish, I have the 350, with the 2.77 rear. Since my car isn't pulling like it should, it doesn't chirp tires, peel out on a launch or nothing... except maybe when I hit the gas through a turn, then of course I peel out. But I'm trying to see if its possible with a 350 in stock form (to see if it can do it from the factory), can it burn rubber on the launch?
...without staging, runnin up rpms, or anyother stuff, I just mean gunning it from a stop.
Is it possible to do this =>

Maybe not smoke em, but you should definately spin some with the L98, at certain throttle my old LG4 could spin just a little.

When my car was stock with 2.77's I could, with new tires and from a dead stop, mash to pedal to the floor and the car would kick sideways and bake the tires way into 2nd gear. Maybe my L98 is a freak of some sort ....it did run 14.4 stock.

oh yeah a richmond 5 speed any one A, B, or C ratio. C is overkill though.

I got 2.77's and have Z rated tires. I can get nice loud barks when I pin it, but for the most park hook up real good. I have yet to loose to a car off the line.

I have 2.73s and I can spin the tires a little off the line. Your engine puts out more than mine, too. If you're having trouble accomplishing this goal of spinning off the line, might I suggest trying it on wet pavement?

If you have an L98, with even 2.77 gears, losing traction (ie spinning the tires) is a problem, not the other way around. If i'm cruising down the street at like 25 mph with the it manually shifted into 1st and i punch it, I can roast the tires real good all the way to second gear in my gta which is running like crap right now. I've sinced learned to save that expensive 245/50ZR16 rubber for showing off to friends.

ChevyLuva,
"Light 'em up?" If you're talking about friction from traction loss to the point of ignition of the rubber, I've never tried it. Slippage? That's a different story.
Yes, your car is definitely running sluggish. My weenie little 305 TPI with the stock "LA" (LameAss) cam, stock torque converter, and 2.77 Borg posi rear can generate enough tire smoke sitting at an intersection to obscure visibility of the vehicles behind me, and then there's that wonderful odor of hot rubber. Any wonder I'm on the third set of Goodyears at 47,000 miles? Not that I would advocate that kind of display or anything...

Sounds to me like "tune up time". When was the last time you did a tune up. Plugs, wires , fuel filter, oil change, trans flush/filter, cap&rotor and air filters.
You shouldnt have a problem spinning the tires, unless you have a slick or D.O.T's.

to all that are still becoming familiar with the english language-or the slang derivatives thereof- when using the "word" " 'em" that is the slang for "them" meaning more than one-and if you dont have posi or a spool or are handy with a welder, you can light "it" up but the chances of lighting " 'em" up is fairly slim. just a heads up.

i've driven quite a few third gens and most of them in stock form. with the exception of a few, any of them with a good brand soft tire wouldn't spin at all or no more than a few feet. going from the stock gatorbacks to comp ta zr's on my iroc when it was stock went from sideways fun to not even a squeek if i was on clean pavement. it's mostly all in the tires and suspension. if your suspension is in decent shape and you have good tires your not going to spin much without the help of the brake or slippery pavement. now, add a higher stall converter and just hope it stays in your lane.

Your 350 deffinately should. My little 170HP 255 ft/lbs. TBI 305 will spin one tire (peg leg open differential) and make it squeal with 2.73's. If you can't do that with your 350 something is wrong.
