Check engine light--

my check engine light comes on every time that i'm in gear and take my foot off the gas. If i get back on the gas, it shuts off within 10 seconds or so; take it off the gas, right back on within 5 sec.

Any bright ideas?

look up the code you are getting, you can do this by shorting 2 of the pins in the aldl connector (not sure witch pins it is in your year if you have a haynes man. or somthing it will tell you) then when you turn the key to the "ON" possition (without starting the car) the SES light will flash like "blink blink PAUSE blink blink blinkl" that would tell you you have code 23 causeing the problem. and then this is a list of codes on this page, or in the manual. that should help you track down what it is.

Looked up the codes...

Got # 24 and # 32...

24 is "Circuit fault in vehicle speed sensor"

32 is
"Fault in barometric pressure sensor circuit OR
Fault in exhaust gas recirculation valve diagnostic switch OR
Fault in electronic vacuum regulator valve"

help?

I'm reading up in the tech articles on "The lowdown on Code 32" but any help w/#24 is welcome

TransAm,

The VSS in your car is mounted on the back side of the speedometer, in the instrument cluster. Fix that first and the '32' may go away.

Ok, so here's the follow up to that....

HOW do you get the Trip Reset needle off of the damn speedometer for PRE-1986 style??? I posted about this earlier and got no response. Surely someone must know how. Is it a screw or what???

Anyone know how much for a new VSS?
