Where is a good place to buy a new steering column?

I need to get a new steering column for my 89 iroc. Someone tried to steal it last week and broke the column all up. I cant even start it or unlock the wheels now. If it werent for my vats I think the car would be gone.
Anyway, the dealer wanted to fix mine and wanted to charge a bunch of money to just give me an estimate. Does anyone know of a place to get a new vats steering column? I cant afford to have a shop fix it. The local salvage yards dont seem to have any. Can I get them new from GM? How much are they?
I am also wondering how to tell if another one will work in my car because of the vats. I know I need tilt wheel with cruise control and stuff.
Thanks for any info that you might have.

i was in the same place you were about a month ago.. Its actualy NOT that hard to do the work yourself, i learned this after i brought it somewhere for the work to be done, insurence paid for it all. and they did such a bad job that I had to redo some things myself. The best place to buy the parts you need is either at the junkyards, or at gmpartsdirect.com once you get the part #'s.

The main problem i noticed with them fixing mine, is that they couldn't find a VATS column, so they put one in that didn't have VATS just because they couldn't find a steering column housing with a large enough key cylinder hole for the VATS unit. which was all because i found the right one online at gmpartsdirect.com once i got the right part #.

It cost insurence over $800 to fix mine.
