roller rocker question
would roller rocker arms make a difference in my 305. I am getting new heads and a lot of other mods but i am NOT getting a new cam. I was wondering if roller rocker arms would be any help at all to my engine.

roller rockers might help you out in allowing your valvetrain to go into the higher rpms as well as reducing friction but I wouldn't say to expect the world of it. but if you are doing mods they are not bad money spent

I just put a set of Crane Gold's on my van. I like em alot. I did the whole roller cam conversion too so I have no problem revving anymore.
The loss of friction is fantastic.

The biggest difference is consistency in valve opening. The stock sheet metal crap might as well be a bunch of rubber bands in the middle of the system. Since roller rockers are mostly made of something with some rigidity unlike the stock stamped garbage, they open all 16 valves the same amount, which is a whole lot closer to the "theoretical" value on your cam card. With stock rockers, production tolerances are so huge, you could have a ratio anywhere from about 1.38 to 1.45 on any given rocker (they're almost never actually 1.5); and if you ever watch a valve train with a strobe light, which you can simulate with a "dial-back" timing light, you would be astounded at how much they flex.
The reduction in friction does not produce a noticeable increase in power. It does however result in your oil temp being 15 to 20° lower in most cases than it would be with ball-fulcrum rockers..
