I need Help!! Head gasket?????

A 1984 z28 camaro with a 350. I was looking at buying this car. It has work done to it. But I was looking at the engine and there is a puddle of anti-freeze on the left side of the intake manifold Looking at the car.It wasn't a hose leak. I already looked at that. Could it be a manifold gasket?? Head gasket?? Crack in the manifold?? It seem to have anti-freeze all around the back of the valve cover gaskets. and if it one of the gaskets should I buy the car and fix it?? Also it had a four Barrel carb. And the secondarys ddn't open when reving it. There was a small rubber hose which was plug with something that would stop the flow of air or something. It also was on my left side looking at the car. Is this a problem??

Sounds like a car with a bit of "back yard mechanic" work done to it. Obviously it's not going to deserve a high price.

Sometimes the rad hose will leak at the waterneck/heater stub and you can't tell. I had a small puddle on my intake once in a while too. One day I gave the hose clamp another turn and it hasn't leaked since. If you can, clean up all the coolant on the intake and then run the engine untill the coolant starts coming out again... hopefully you can trace it to the source. If the manifold/head is leaking then it will also be polluting the oil. Any milky white residue on the underside of the pcv valve or the oil dipstick?

No real way for me to know what the line he plugged is... if it's a Q-jet then it's probably a polution device or maybe the air cleaner hose?

Where on the intake is the puddle?

I know that at the back of the intake on the drivers side, there is a coolant passage, and if the gasket happens to break there, it will leak, for that matter, I think, but am not sure, that there is a coolant passage at each corner of the intake.

Start the car and try to see where the leak is coming from. Check the oil and if its milky looking and sweet smelling then you either have a blown head gasket or a really really bad intake leak. Typically with a really bad intake leak the oil will have some gas in it also.

When revving an engine in park/nuetral the secondaries won't open. They only open under load.

Well I'm not worring about it now. I just got an 1987 IROC-Z with a 350 tpi. t-tops and only 91,000 miles. Definetly a step up from the 86 2.8 beast.
