What is this on the driver's side of the motor?

ok I have this moroso oil pan I was gonna put on (part #MOR-21807), and it has the little "bubble" on the passenger side for the dipstick, which is fine. But my block has something identical on the drivers side except that it has a little metal tube protruding from it down towards the inside of the oil pan. My moroso pan will not clear this. What is it????

It looks like it runs up the outside of the block and then terminates outside the cylinder head, because the block has a tube-like raised portion that runs up it like that.

The stock pan has two "bubbles". One for each side, but I though that was so it fit either passenger or drivers side dipsticks on all blocks.

Is my block machined for both dipsticks or something? It is a GM crate motor 350 made to replace 1969-85 SB Chevys. part #10067353

Driver's side dipstick fitting...

The tube in the crankcase keeps the dipstick out of the crank's way. If you're not using that side, just remove the tube. For that matter, even if you do use the LH stick, the tube isn't critical, if your dipstick is straight at the end.

thanks!
one more question, why does the side I'm not using have that tube but the one I am (passenger side) doesn't? I know you said its not critical, but should I transplant it to the other side for that extra insurance?
