6085 heads timing question..
6085 heads timing question..
ok anyone running edelbrock 6085 heads in their tbi?
I could have sworn I read somewhere in their instructions to set timing to 8* BTDC.. if that's the case then of course you have to unplug that wire for the esc and after the engine is warm leave it idle and set timing to 8 on the tab?
anyone know if this is right?

I didn't see anything about high octane fuel.
8 deg. should be the fourth line on the tab. If I remember right.
BTW, what rockers and pushrods did you use with those heads?

I will read through the papers again to make sure on the fuel thing but, I would think as they are stock replacement you shouldn't have to use premium.
are you using roller rockers? 1.5- 1.6?

I built an engine for a 90 tbi 350 using the 6085 heads. I used the non-rail type stamped steel rockers and .100 longer than stock pushrods(geometry was good). The motor liked 8 degrees and ran fine on 89.

No, I think the only way they will send you a chip is if you buy their MPFI system. I used the stock chip,3704 intake and a crane 2030 compucam(114122). I feel the truck needed some chip tuning but the guy i done the work for said he would do that later.

You are correct, It has been a year or so since i done that job but i remember now wanting to use the larger crane cam, and as you mentioned, you must buy all three from edelbrock to get the chip.

ok.. well edelbrock is useless in helping me out here with the pinging.. I emailed them twice and called and had to leave voice mail once.. still no hear from them...
anyhow tonight I went out and I put $25 of ultra 94 octaine to mix in with the 1/4 tank of 92 that I had in there.. still seems to ping on the initial load down for about a sec.. if I'm doing like 40kms/h and I give it half throttle it will ping just before she kicks in.. and drops the gear..
I'm thinking maybe I should drop the timing from I think it's now at 7* to maybe 5*...
using lower octain would make it worse right?
