don't know what to do with air filter setup

does anyone have some pics of their car with the stock lo3 engine. I have that engine in my 91 RS and the air filter setup that the guy gave to me doesn't fit, but he says it came with the car. it has the case for the air filter and then it connects directly to the plastic piece that's supposed to connect to the front of the inside of the engine well. well the case fits fine on the carb, but then the plastic piece connects to the case, but then won't line up to where it's supposed to be connected onto. i probably sound like i don't know what i'm talking about and that's partly true. so if anyone has some info on this and/or some pics, i would be very grateful.

stock engine pic.

1991 RS 305 TBI. Also It is not a carp, it is a throtle body (TBI = throtle body injection) If you go to get parts and you say it is a carb you might confuse somebody. I sould have the same engine as you.

hmmmmm, well maybe the guy gave me the wrong plastic piece that goes into the front. becuz the one i have the air filter neck goes right into the plastic piece. i went to pick up a hose for the air filter the other day, but the plastic piece and the neck of the air filter case had different sizes at their openings. so then i thought, maybe they just go right into each other and they did, but then the plastic piece didn't fit where it was supposed. so i guess either there is a hose that fits 2 different holes or the guy gave me the wrong plastic piece.

Can you post a picture of the setup you have now? This would help somebody identify what you have.

i say run out and buy you a 20$ 14'' open element...even without a k&n filter youll see a huge difference and make sure you get a non drop base

Mr. gasket makes a 14" low profile open unit exactly for our cars. I picked one up at the Advance auto parts store a month ago hoping it would fit nice. Got home, and it was perfect. No drop base either so no spacers were needed. Out of curiosity I looked it up on a website(Jeg's I think) and it list this Mr. Gasket part# as a fit recommended for the 82-92 firebird/camaro. But I think you'll have to make a few changes to take on an open element.

ok, i hope these pics work, i haven't been able to get any pics to work on this site yet. well here goes, this first pic shows how the air filter case goes right into the plastic piece that is supposed to be hooked up somwhere in the front, but as you can see, it doesn't go far enough.

that's not the right filter setup for damn sure. it's a combo of a Multi port fuel injection air cleaner and carb air cleaner. the proper air cleaner setup has already been displayed by jawz.

you can leave as it is in the first pic. as long as there is a good airfilter in the air cleaner. you could say it's SORTA a ghetto cold air setup . i would recommend to repair ASAP as long as time/$$$ permits. good luck.

The picture you posted is a mis-matched air intake system. The plastic Y shaped piece that is in front of the radiator is for a 2.8L V6 camaro, while the round metal piece that sits ontop of the throttle body is from either a carbureted V8 or throttle body V8 camaro (doesnt matter, they are the same).

That round metal piece with the snorkel sticking off of it needs to be rotated counter clockwise some so its pointing like the first picture. Then you need to get the plastic flex tube and scoop (2 separate pieces) that attach to that. They are not required, the engine will run fine without them, they are jsut there to let the engine intake cooler air from outside the engine compartment.

Also, you can remove the plastic Y shaped piece in front of the radiator, it does absolutely nothing on your engine, since its supposed to be for a V6.

no, this would be my 2nd camaro(also 2nd car) but my other camaro was the '87 sc with a 2.8 V6, so yea i never knew an 8 cylinder had a different setup.

well TPI looks just like the MPFI setup, just way bigger, you have either a tbi or CC carb setup.
