Half way engine swap!!??

there is an 87 in my neighborhood and the guy swapped out the 6 and has an 8 in there....it needs a driveshaft to run but he said that if he plugs in the fuel line then it'll start right up...but it still has the stock 6 suspension.....it's only likr 400.00 or 500.00 is it worth it..what kind've work will i have to do...i know this is a project and that it exactly what i want but i dont want this car to own all my time ya know...it wont be on the road for a year because i have another car as a daily driver and i'd be slamming money into the project car whatever it be....any advice will be good..thanks!!:lala:

He says it will run - but will it ? If its T.B. I. or T. P. I. did he swap out the computer? If its a Carb, many of the new Auto transmissions are shifted by the computer ; meaning you'll go fast in low gear but it wont shift. (unless you find a way to hook in the computer)
This V8, where did it come from, is it a fresh motor or has it been used and abused?
I will never buy a used motor, unless I can hear, see, smell, etc. it run. ( oh, it was running great when we parked it, - ya, right)

Any engine swap is tedious business, with countless details-
and the last part is the worst. The question is, would you enjoy it or would it be one big pain to you? There are some of us that enjoy the frustration, the skint knuckles, & the banging your head against hot iron. If you aren't in to pain and suffering w/ fan belts and wrenches - why do it? It takes a lot of time & effort to create a Proud Ride.

305 rebuilt and it couldnt be the 6cyl tranny cuz its ony 3spd...the 6 has AOD....it needs a driveshaft so it's tough to tell how it will drive....but i'm sure it'll need new suspension because an 8 is heavier than a 6 and it's got the stock 6...the swap is basically all done up to the driveshaft and i'm sure some small crap..

The only differences between a V6 & V8 suspension are the front springs and front sway bar.

You really need to understand what he did with the induction (carb, injection, CC or non-CC).

"...plugs in the fuel line" has a scary sound to it. The V6 had fuel injection - high pressure, in-tank electric pump system. If carb, it needs a pressure regulator and some "smart" dealings with the fuel pump electrical power.

'87 V8 cars didn't have a 3-speed auto. Another cause for concern, sounds like he put an earlier non-overdrive tranny in there. Probably means it's shorter than most 3rd gen trannies, meaning a longer (and custom, unless you can find an '82 or '83 3-speed auto driveshaft) driveshaft is required. Oh, a V6 tranny won't bolt to a V8, anyway.

If you're savy enough, $400 might be worth it. But, you may want to pass unless you're willing to take on someone else's trouble.

Its probably a TH350 tranny... if so, check out Spohn... he has drive shafts that will fit your app!
