HURRY...valve cover..rocker..guideplate issue.

Motor - 89 IROC 350.

Heads - Aluminum Corvette Centerbolt..casting # 10088113

Rockers - Crane Gold 1.5 Roller Rockers - Self Aligning.

Problem:

Mechanice doesn't think the rockers will self align. Thinks deflection will result. I order guideplates. Mechanic installs guideplates. Valve covers will not fit I order tall valve covers from Summit.

After reading some posts about self aligning valve covers and guideplates I call Crane Cams. They say "definately do not use both guideplates and self aligning rockers. Also states that " valve covers should be fine...GM uses these rockers". Posts on this site also seem to confirm this.

Mechanic is about ready to bail...doesn't want to stand by the motor if it's not assembled the way he feels it should be assembled. The car has been in the shop 3 weeks and is in peices.

ANY ADVICE!!!!!!!

Self-aligning rockers will work fine. Guide plates should not be used with them.

Either take the guide plates back off and use the SA rockers, or leave the guide plates on and get non-SA rockers. One or the other, but never both.
