Problem: wheel wont turn

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone elce. As I was backing out of my driveway today I noticed that the wheel wouldent turn.

Anyway as im almost in the street I see a belt lieing under the car, upon further inspection there is also a bolt, It could have been there b4 but i doubt it.

My car guru friend should be over any minute, but jsut wondering if this has happened to anyone elce.

I bet it was those people at Jiffy Lube, probobly loosened a bolt or somehting so I would have to get it fixed.

do you mean one of your wheels and tires or the steering wheel won't turn? if its the steering wheel it sounds like something in the column is broke and you're stuck in the lock position. that will require a new column or some teardown of the column to see what is jammed. happened to me once.

Sounds to me like your power steering belt came off... maybe the adjustment bolt was loose and fell out?

Open the hood and look at the belts, it shouldn't take a guru to spot that problem, even someone as dumb as I am would be able to tell if a belt is gone.

Well apperantly a couply of bolts broke and basically the alternator snapped off where it was attached to the engine block. (3 bolts). Half of the bolts are still in the block so I have to take it to a shop. NOw I was wondering if driveing the car 5 miles (or so) to the shop will do any damage now that the water pump is not working.

Drive it only if you plan on buying a new motor as soon as your engine turns into a iron brick. otherwise

good idea on the tow job. My alternator went out on me last week in the middle of nowhere in ND and I was up fuct river. The fan on my alternator had actually dug in the bracket that held it on to the engine. When the fan came off it nearly blew through my hood and dented it from the inside, and now the paint is chipping off my hood, and that was a week ago. Luckly I found a '69 vette hood scoop that will be cut right into the hood so that problem is solved. As for my alternator it self it actually caught fire and burned my valve head cover a little bit, I bet I drove 20 miles at 80 mph with it gone. I was behind a big farm semi pullin horses and I heard something hit under my car thinkin it was rocks. Wrong it was my alternator fan blowing up. I'd show you pics but my digital camera is being a pain in the ***. Well 1 day later and $200 bucks in towing, 250 in parts, and 200 in labor it was fixed for a grand total of $650.

You guys have some seriously whack luck!

My alt. on the 87 crapped out (after a heater hose rained on the whole engine bay) so I just used the one out of the 86, and I'll be upgrading to an 87 f-body style alt. on the 87. The alt. in the 87 lasted from 97 or 98 to just a week or so ago and I'll rebuild it. Can't complain

And yeah, don't drive w/ out the water pump. Driving it 50 feet is one thing; 5 miles is another. Worth the tow.
