AFR heads

I'm not sure I understand the runner part of heads just yet.

I've looked over the AFR website, trying to figure out which I'd like to go with. I see the 210cc and the 215cc Raised Runners.

What is the advantage of raised runners, and how much effect does it really have? It's over 600$ more.

These would be placed on a 400 shooting 150-200 shot.

unless you plan on making peak hp in the 6500+ rpm range stick with 210s or 220s

They will provide sufficent flow for a 400.

The 220s are basically the same.
The 215RRs require special offset rocker arms.

The raised runners straighten out the flow into and out of the cylinder. The gas has to make less of a sharp turn right behind the valve.

I would suggest that unless you're willing to deal with non-standard headers and intake manifolds, and the other special parts as jcb noted, that you stick with the regular runner style heads.

Alright, thanks. 210s sound good then.

Another question if anyone views this, how much trouble is it to use 6" rods instead of the standard 400 rods?

I don't think it's very much trouble at all, but then I'm an idiot. However, this requires special pistons; and it moves the pin bore so far up into the piston that it's almost under the second compression ring, even with thin rings and narrow ring lands. Not a good street package.

if anything ,, ..its easier now days

most of the aftermarket 400cranks you see are set up for 6" and internally balanced. But.. I really don't care for then myself.
mine is a 5.7 motor.
