Does anyone have a problem with their rearview falling off?
Does anyone have a problem with their rearview falling off?
Ive tried everything but it keeps falling. Any suggestions? The heat here in Florida calls for something strong. Thanks.

Hulk,
I had that same problem too. I used on of those two part kit you find at the auto parts store. You have to make sure the surface is very clean and the car is in the shade(cool windshield). I cleaned mine with alcohol and used the original mount. Once you put it on don't mess with it until the next day.
Mine's been there for over six months, so I'll say it works. If anything find a local auto glass repair shop and ask them to glue it back on for you for a few bucks. My wife had hers done at a shop about 2 years ago and it's still there.
Good luck,
Ozzy

Ozzy is right, CLEAN-CLEAN-CLEAN is the key. I live in pennsylvania where it is not so hot, but 3 yrs. ago what a bitch. Mine fell off 3 times, and it swung by the light wire . Do it at night, and get the OE glue- if the glue sits on the shelf too long it is USELESS. The glue is probably made by the same company but I was told by my dealer parts guy that it has a VERY limited shelf life. Took his advise, well it's been three years. Danno
You MUST use an alcohol based cleaner that evaporates within 5 seconds of applying it. Make sure there are no bits of crap left on the rearview mount. I used Zippo lighter fluid or brake cleaner... that "Goof Off" remover stuff contains an oil base and is useless. (Actually it's lighter fluid that they add mineral oil to so it won't ignite easily)
DO NOT touch the base or the windshield with your finger or anything else after you have cleaned it with a pristine piece of cloth... mine has been on for 3 years now... with Walmart adhesive.

Just did mine about 4 months ago with one of the two piece glue kits and then did my friends aero star today. He tried it the first time but he didn't get the right kit and used a wetnap like thing to clean the windshield. I actually used everclear (grain alcohol baby!) to clean everything (one shot for the van and one shot for me!) When you get the kit though it has the adhesive and then an activator dab one on the button and the other on the windshield, smack together, hold for thirty seconds, wait about an hour just for safety and then put the mirror back on. Thats all it is, only way to make it easier is to involve jello shots somehow...

Sounds to me like its not clean as well.
Try sanding the back of the tab, use 400 grit sandpaper placed on a flat surface. Clean it well when done. Let the activator sit for a minute (use it on the tab and the glass), put the glue on, stick it on the window, and let it sit overnight. I used to live in Fresno for a while, mirror fell off the middle of summer when I tried to adjust it one day. I put it back on there that night, been there ever since. If it can survive the regular 100+ degree days there it should survive Florida just fine.

A few years ago I worked at a Dodge dealership as a service advisor, and one of the things the service manager taught me was how to put a mirror back on. The first thing to do is mark the outside of the glass with a grease pencil or permanent marker where the mirror was. Then, take a single edged razor and scrape all the old glue off the inside of the windshield. Next, take some fine sandpaper, 220 to 320 should do, and sand both the mirror mount and the glass. Then, open your Chrysler mirror glue kit and use the cleaner on the glass and the mount and after the solvent has dried spread the glue evenly on the mount and carefully press it to the windshield for two minutes. I'd leave it sit for an hour or so after that, overnight would be better, but never had one come back even after only five minutes before hanging the mirror.
There is a trick to it. You have to make sure that you put only a small drop of the stuff on that metal piece, and make sure it doesn't go over the edges. This way it makes good contact with the glass, otherwise it can get air bubbles underneath and fall off easily. I've done my last two of them this way and they have never fallen off.

A little sandpaper on the glass may do the trick. I had to do that on my 91 GMC Jimmy last summer. It gets 100 plus here in the summer. 3 tries with the brand name 'kit' didn't work--the glue was sticking to the mount, just not the glass. A little sandpaper on the glass and it works great.
